A quote from the article...
"Most people simply return to their bad eating habits after following a crash diet plan, which causes them to gain back all the weight lost. In fact, many end up adding a few extra pounds to their initial weight."
The author of the article missed the main point of Atkins and many of the other low carb plans: THIS IS FOR LIFE AND NOT TO BE USED AS A CRASH DIET!! They obviously didn't read past the induction phase chapter or they would know this. Or...they're deliberately choosing to ignore the rest of the book so that they can make their point, which is invalid anyway.
What the author said is true of ANY diet plan...if you go back to your old eating habits once you lose the weight, the pounds will return and usually bring several of their friends along as well.
I disagree that it's difficult to maintain this WOE long term. I've been doing this for going on 2 years now and haven't had too much trouble, other than the occasional indiscretion, sticking with it. No health problems, either; quite the opposite. I'm in much better health now than I was 2 years ago, not to mention 75 lbs. lighter.
