Default Indian Food

I am going out to an indian restaurant at the weekend and I am not at all sure what I can eat. I am currently on my 15th day. Obviously the naan bread, pompadoms and rice is out but what curries can I eat. Any help would be appreciated here as I can see this night out being miserable and curries are usually my favourite.

I know that Tandoori chicken is usually a pretty good bet. I have some canned curry sauce at home though and it's pretty high in carbs. Depends on how they make the curries. Make sure you skip the lentils and the chickpeas that come in some curries. If I were you and I felt pretty solid on my plan I would do this: Eat some tandoori chicken as an appetizer and fill out with whatever meat in a curry sauce that I wanted. I would try to eat as little sauce as possible, maybe getting it a little spicier so I'm inclined to scrape some of the sauce off maybe.

Here is a link to the Atkins center suggestions for Indian food. I try to follow what they list. I sometimes have a difficult time making choices, but I love Indian food. I never pass it up. Good luck, and I hope the food is excellent.

I have eaten saag paneer (spinach with Indian cheese) several times while on Atkins and have done fine. Also the saag paneer sold in indian grocery stores never seem to contain any type of sugar, so I assume restaurants make it similarly.

Hope you have a great meal! Indian food is so delicious!

Whenever I eat Indian, I simply tell them I don't eat sugars or starches and certain vegetables. You'd be surprised how much of their food doesn't include sweeteners of any kind.

I've had curry chicken with green bell pepper before...very good and full of good fats!

By a serendipitous coincidence, Dana Carpender's latest Lowcarbezine discusses what you can eat in an Indian restaurant. She has taken a particular menu off the net and discusses what can and can't be eaten. Here is the link: http://www.holdthetoast.com/archive/030902.html
