Default This is interesting...

Hey everyone,

I don't know if this has been posted before, but here's a link to an interesting (if rather long ) critical analysis of low-fat vs high-fat diets. Includes the Zone, Atkins etc. Sorry if it's been posted before!

Interesting and Slick but Wrong.

Martin Collins's web site and recommendations are wrought with errors and contradictions. He stresses the importance of protein from eating meat but gave the vegetarian book, Eat More, Weigh Less - Overall grade B+/A-, the highest rating. This book recommends an unhealthy dietary fat restriction of less than 10% as does vegetarian Dr. Dean Ornish.

Collins praises Gary Taubes for his "brilliant piece of journalism, which was very carefully and cleverly researched." which is not a compliment at all. Gary Taubes certainly has writing and debating skills, but he won the day because he was presenting scientific truths.

Martin Collins' advice will not help overweight individuals lose weight and keep it off. He will not help people with diabetes get off their meds. He will not help people avoid cancer and heart disease. Nathan Pritikin proved that when his vegetarian diet with less then 10% dietary fats gave him cancer and he committed suicide. James Fixx, author of The Complete Book of Running, proved that when his vegetarian diet with less than 10% dietary fats gave him heart disease. He died in his running shoes proving that exercise does not prevent heart disease. Fixx was a marathon runner.

Avoid Martin Collins' web site and advice.
