Question Suggestions for Japanese Restaurant?

Help! One of my best friends birthday's is tomorrow night. She is having a dinner party at a Japanese restaurant and I really don't want to miss the party.

Biggest problem is that I just don't do sushi I was thinking I could eat edemami, miso soup and maybe the salad. Everything else seems off limits, terriaki chicken, tempura, tonkatsu all either breaded or to much sugar.

So I may just have a steak before hand and stick to the salad and soup at the dinner.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks!

Cindy

Try chicken or steak terriaki. Terriaki does have some sugar but I don't believe it would be too bad for you. Maybe ask if they can grill a steak or chicken breast that hasn't been marinated.
Cheers.

You might find some of the suggestions helpful from the Atkins site on dining out Japanese style.

Thanks! It looks like I'll be ok with soup, salad and maybe some negamaki!

I just went to a Japanese steakhouse (not sure what type restaurant you are going to) last weekend while on induction and had scallops and steak along with the veggie mixture they make. I am still losing weight, so I don't think the soy/terriyaki affected me adversly. Our restaurant starts with miso soup, salad, vegetable mixture, meat/seafood and fried or white rice. I didn't have them and even though that was one of my favorite parts of the dinner, I wasn't really too bothered not having them!

Thanks Sharon,

It sounds like you went to some place similiar to a Benihana. It's tepan style cooking where they grill everything at the table. I love that place! We'll see what I end up with tonight. I'm well prepared now!
