Default getting over the stomach flu

Normally after I've had the flu and been vomiting I would drink gingerale and eat crackers till I could hold down food. Can't do that anymore. Any suggestions on what I can eat? Nothing sounds good and I tried drinking tea and water and it didn't go down well. The only other thing I can think of is bullion broth. I cheated on the way to the pharmacy today and drank about 4 oz of Coke. It has always been one of the few things that would settle my stomach. I don't want to cheat anymore though.

Try drinking flat diet coke. That is usually very good for settling your stomach and it wouldn't be a cheat.

I always drink diet 7-Up when I have an upset stomach. It goes down easy and wouldn't be cheating either. The diet jello is a good idea, too.

If you've had severe vomiting and diarrhea, you could be dehydrated, and in extreme cases that can be life-threatening. Getting re-hydrated is obviously a priority over watching the carbs. If you suspect you're seriously dehydrated, you need to replace electrolytes by drinking large amounts of a solution of equal parts sugar and salt mixed in water (that's why Coke and Saltines work), AND YES, THE SUGAR IS NECESSARY, or drink re-hydration solution, which can be purchased at the drugstore. Both have carbs, but a severe electrolyte imbalance can put you in the hospital, and even kill you if you have certain pre-existing conditions. Really, don't fool around with this.

Physiological Signs and Symptoms of Dehydration:

Recent rapid weight loss
Dry eyes and/or mouth
Change in mental status
Fever
Vomiting
Postural hypotension
Small amount of concentrated urine
Urinary tract infections
Pulse >100 beats/minute and/or systolic blood pressure <100 mmHg
Dizziness

Functional Signs and Symptoms

Lethargy and weakness
Change in mental status
Falling
Change in ability to carry out activities of daily living
Increased combativeness and confusion

I had to go to the hospital for IV's over christmas for dehydrations so I am trying to keep myself hydrated. I was feeling guilty about the Coke though. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
