Default questions for the ladies?

Hi all I have a question, I generally loose 12 to 15 pounds a month, the week after tom of month 5 pounds, the week after ovulation 5 pounds and all the other weeks generally 1-3 pounds. My doctor has somewhat discussed hrt with me because I also have polycystic ovarian disease, but I am only 37 and not sure whether I am interested in that quite yet. I was wondering if anyone else has the same things happening and what they do or take, he tested my thyroid as well because I to freeze all the time, but said it was within normal enough range for him(not sure what exactly that means)I am quite happy with the amount of weight I drop a month, I am more concerned about mood swings, as my hubby says is it you or your wicked step sister. Any advise or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks
Treese

I don't have a response, but I wanted to express my sympathy for what you are going through. I had awful, awful PMS for decades (I'm assuming your mood swings are PMS) and hitting menopause has been a great relief to me. No more mood swings! Given that for me the drop in hormone levels associated with menopause has improved my mental stability 100%, I'm sort of surprised that your doctor is recommending HRT to you. There is no way I would voluntarily go back to having higher levels of hormones in my body. However, I am no expert in this area.

I hope someone has some advice for you.

I actually have the opposite effect while doing LC. I had no PMS this month and my cramps were at a minimum. I think staying away from caffeine helps me the most.

I'm cold all the time too. I'm usually wearing two sweaters just to keep warm. My hands and feet often feel like ice.

This raised a red flag for me, there is a range of thyroid that is considered acceptable, but apparently, if you are getting close to the border of those ranges, you can have a thyroid problem that is hard to pick up on without further tests. There is a website I've heard highly recommended you might want to look at if you think thyroid might be an issue for you.

http://thyroid.about.com/index.htm

I'd be tempted to look into Dr. Atkin's Vita Nutrient Solution book and see if he has anything to say about PMS/PCOS and vitamin/mineral/herbal treatments before trying HRT. He became quite into vitamins and minerals and his books seem quite good (at least to me, who is fairly uneducated on the subject, so take that with a grain of salt! )

Good luck, I hope you find some answers.

Valerie

Hi all thanks for the help, I truely think it has to do with my thyroid but I'm in Canada, and trying to get a doctor down here is really hard, never mind trying to get one that agrees with your diet. They just run the regular tests and nothing more. I have always had trouble with hormones as well, so it is kind of a toss up. ValerieL I checked out the website and it describes me to a T. everything in it seems to be pretty dead on for me. The infertility problems, miscarrages the works, mood swings the works, Thanks again I printed out the pages and I'm going to get into see my Doc. again and make him dig deeper if he wants to or not.

Thanks again all
Treese
