Default Summer sausage!

I was in the supermarket and saw one of those long summer sausages in the tight brown packaging and checked the carb content, ZERO. Yum, but aren't those things processed? I mean, it has 0 carbs, and it tastes good, but is it even worth eating nutrition-wise?

Labelling is not always accurate. Manufacturers are allowed to count it as 0 per serving as long as it is under 1 gr per serving. so, it could be as high as .99 and they can still call it 0.

Check the ingredients and see if there is sugar or a sugar "ose" in it near the top of the ingredients list. If there is, it has "hidden" sugars. There may also be a lot of chemicals in processed meats.

Some people can eat processed meats without problem. For others this isn't so. Your mileage may varry (YMMV) really applies to things like summer sausage, pepperoni, salami, ham, roast beef, etc. Only you can decide if processed meats are something you'd like to add to your way of eating.

Watch packaged sausages of all types - - they sometimes contain hidden sugars and/or fillers that are NOT listed. I'd eat these in moderation. PLUS the sodium is high in most of these packaged meat products and can make you retain water thus sometimes making the scale go up instead of down (water weight).

My husband buys those Yard-O-Beef summer sausages from Sam's Club and eats those at work most nights. He has no problems from it. He had more trouble from too many nuts than from that.

On the other hand, they make me sick to my stomach and give my father blood in his urine from the liquid smoke used in the sausage. So, YMMV.
