Default L-Tyrosine and Vitamin B supplement

hi there,
I know this question has probably been put out there a zillion and one times but I can't seem to pull up anything in the search.

I was looking for suppliments to boost my energy lately and I talked to a friend of mine who knows a little something about herbs. She recommended L-Tyrosine and a vitamin B suppliment. I bought both and the bottle says to take one a day which I have been doing for a few weeks. I can't really tell yet if it's worked. however, my friend said that I can safely up the dose if I feel like I need it. She suggested taking three of each a day but I'm a little iffy about that. Any thoughts from people who have tried or heard of either of these for energy? I'm not looking for something that will help in workouts (unfortunately I haven't been doing much of that lately!) but more something that will give me alterness and concentration.

Thanks,
Tam
