Default Jean sizes???

I don't get it. I can now fit into my newly washed Calvin Klein jeans, but right now they are kind of tight still. How come other people are in smaller sizes? No fair

My goal is to wear my size 12 jeans and have them baggy. I don't ever remember being below a size 12. Could it ever be possible? Junebug

Junebug,

We are all shaped differently. Currently I am at 174.5 and my 18's are a tad too big, so I think I am at a 16 now. At my highest of 242 I was a 24/26. So don't get discouraged, there are others out there who are curvier too.

Sizes are not consistent between brands, either. I can wear a 16 in some brands, but an 18 is tight in others. It's even the same in kids' clothes. There are brands where my daughter can't get into an 8, but others where an 8 is even a little loose.
Body shape make a big difference too. I'm an apple when it comes to body shape, so when a pair if slacks fits me in the waist, they are usually baggy in the butt and thighs.

And it also depends on your height and your muscle to fat ratio. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat!

I was curious on the size thing too and did a post that had lots of really cool and amazing responses. Here is the link:

At my height, I wear different sizes than other people at my weight. RIght now I am a very comfortable and loose size 10-inching slowly towards the 8's I want to be. Other people who carry 20-30 pounds more are wearing 10's too.

My legs are one size, my waist is another. Kind of weird, eh?

do you have an 'express' shop near you? i love express jeans - they are made for a REAL woman that has hips and a butt and all those lovely curves, not a 16 year old with a body like a boy.

and to top it off, all express sizes run large! doncha love it? i'm in my 8s and waiting to get back to my 3/4s ! BWWWAAAHAAAHAAA thank you express! what a marketing concept. it's real clothes for real women with realistic sizing.

i can't stand it when i try a certain brand of jeans on and the ones (size 12) that i can get over my womanly hips sag in the butt and thighs! i am proud of these hips, i came by 'em honestly and they mark me as a girl type person.

also, at certain times i'm more swollen - like that lovely time of the month we all adore so, and if i'm not, ummm regular... my mid section definitely will not cooperate.

Yes, we do have an express. I always thought it was a store catered to teenagers and smaller people. Thanks for the tip.

Post Hi

I agree with Talon

When I was 280 I was size 26. My muscles are very dense so I appear smaller than my weight says. So as you see, we each are different.

Yep, everybody is different for sure. I used to wear a skin tight 26/28, I was so fat I wore those jeans with the elastic waist But now I'm in a loose size 20. I think I could get on some 18's but I am used to having loose clothes now. And I'm 240 lbs...

I'm completely new here, having been on Atkins for less than 2 weeks BUT I too have noticed some benefits already. All of my pants are very loose. I got into a smaller size today too, but they gaped as if filled with a white bellied balloon and they're at least 2 inches away from closing. Who cares--I strutted around happy as a lark since I could get them over my hips. I credit all that aerobic walking I've been doing...

bwwwaaahaaahaaa! thanks, no applause necessary. just throw money.

honey life is for the living and last i checked, i ain't dead yet! i have too much fun for one mortal woman. but i'm not sharing.

hey wanna loose your butt? do step aerobics. i used to have a nice little j'lo package going back behind me before step aerobics. then one day a close girlfriend kind of hunkered down and looked at my backside profile and said, "honey, where did your little butt go?" (note: i am a southern woman and this is how we speak when we are amongst our own).

now i have no hiney! i'm hiney-less! and now booties are in fashion, too...

and yes i LOVES me some express. nope, it's not for skinny minnies. i really get some of the greatest clothes there, i've just now bought the cutest print skirts with little tailored tops - all in the pastels that are so nice. not only are they in realistic sizes but they are very flattering. those still in the plus sizes won't find too much but for us working the 8 to 14s (real not paris) sizes have a lot to choose from. my only gripe is some of the tops. my girls are nice and sizey and i hope to stay that way. but i always have to try on the express tops. verrrrry tricky.

someone should research to see if whatever company owns that chain also does a plus size. so far i'm impressed with the quality and style; i'd like to think that women a few sizes up from me have the same choices. nothing when makes you feel nicer when you are out & about than to be wearing something new and fashionable (says i as i adjust my sweatpants & ponytail). ALL women regardless of size should have a good selection of affordable, fashionable, flattering clothing in the current styles.

that's my platform, vote for me.

Actually, I think the company Express (The Limited) did buy a plus size store, Lane Bryant.

Dark Lotus, I think we are about the same right now. I am 240 and am wearing size 20 jeans. I am loving the fact that I can wear Gap, finally!!

I ran/jogged a mile today and only walked 3 minutes of it. My goal is to be able to run a 3K. :-)

I have to say , i LOVE lane bryant jeans. I could never fit into jeans, because i am so tall - the inseam was always much to short. Then one day, when i was on a roadtrip to the US, i discovered lane bryant - and their flare jeans are MADE for girlies with hips. YIPPPPEEEEE! I also must confess, that after being a size 16 my whole life, i was so happy (i squealed in the change room) that i could fit into a size 14. I wish that i could get down there ( to the US) more often - i have yet to discover a store in Canada that is it's equivilent.
