Is it normal to gain a pound but lose inches? I know that I could have gained muscle but I just want to make sure that it's normal and I don't have to stick with 20 grams of carbs for my lifetime maintenance so I don't gain weight.

If you are working out then yes, it's totally possible and no you don't have to stay at 20 carbs forever. I am currently up to 70 to 90 net carbs a day and still not gaining. The number is different for everyone you just have to find the spot where you aren't losing or gaining. You can read up on www.atkins.com on how to re-introduce carbs back.

Even if you aren't exercising, your body may be burning the fat but grabbing the protein to make repairs in muscle tissue. If you have been doing low fat or low cal before lowcarbing, you may have been short of protein for quite a while.

Start increasing the carbs in the 3rd week as the book says. The idea of raising the carbs gives you a lower level in reserve if you should ever stall (which you will) or if you should regain. If you are still at Induction levels, where could you go?
