Smile Cocoa powder is loaded with potassium!

I just thought I'd pass on my latest discovery from fitday: a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder has 135 mg. of potassium. When you buy potassium supplements, they are usually 99 mg. (Newbies: potassium is an essential supplement for LC diets, unless you are taking medication for high blood pressure. Potassium gets rid of that light-headed, dizzy feeling.)

The carb count for a tablespoon is 2.96 gm - 1.61 gm fiber = 1.35 gm digestible carbs.

Now, that's a great discovery!

Other good sources are:

3 oz of canned tuna - 200 mg
3.5 oz pork loin chop -
1 can (7 oz/ 200g) sockeye salmon - 1,391 mg
1 medium california avocado - 1,097 mg
1/2 pkg (5 oz/ 140g) spinach - 824 mg
1 medium stalk broccoli - 526 mg
1/3 cup natural sunflower seed kernels - 331 mg
1/2 cup canned diced tomatoes - 290 mg
2 Tbsp peanut butter - 214 mg
1/8 tsp potassium-salt substitute - 325 to 500 mg

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow, Karen! I think I'll stop spending money on those supplements. Somehow they really seem to help when I get light-headed, though. Maybe I'll try that potassium salt.
YAY! I found a great recipe fr cocoa...woohoo! AND it's only about 4 carbs for a huge mug (water, 1 tbls cocoa, 2 Tbls cream or half/half, 2-3 packs splenda) to die for...and good for me?
I LOVE THIS WOL!
I hate to disappoint you but that cocoa is more than 4 carbs.
1 tbs hersheys cocoa 1 carb
2 tbs of cream or half and half is 2 carb
Each packet of splenda is 1 carb
Fyi -
I make a cocoa fluff thing I found on some site (maybe here).
1 oz cream cheese softened
1 tbs heavy cream
1 tsp cocoa
1 tsp splenda
Mix and just a kind of chocolatey cheesecakey pudding but fits my chocolate need and really is 4 carbs. Suggestion: use a small spoon like me and it feels like more.
(I feel funny even giving this recipe when Karen is here and her recipes are really wonderful).
