Default Does smoking have an affect on metabolism?

I was just wondering if being a smoker has any affect on my metabolism? If so, how much? Thanks.

Yes.

Hi NewGuy, welcome aboard.

Many dieters, including low-carbers report weight gain. And smokers report initial loss. I've read a research but cannot recall where, that smoking effects the hyporthalymous (sp?) in your brain, which controls your set point, which where your body think you ought to be interms of weight and metabolism. This means a set amount of weight is gained/lost depending on smoking, but many attribute it to appetitte or addiction substitution following quitting smoking. Sorry I can't locate the details as it has been some time since I read it.

Nicatine works as a weak thermogenic. Not a reason to smoke though.
