Default Training for a 10K!

I've decided I want to try a 10k race (not that I'll be racing, just finish). I used to run as a teenager and I need to get exercising again, and this seemed like a good way to do it with a monster payoff at the end when I complete my first 10k race.

I did a search of my area and found one that is Thursday, July 22nd, 2004.

Then I found a 25 week complete beginner to 10k training guide on the internet.

I'm a little short on time, I've only got 23 weeks, but the first two weeks were easy enough (walking 20 minutes every other day)and I know I would have handled them easily, so I'm jumping in at the 3rd week.

I'm really excited, I'm looking forward to doing this.

I'm going to add some weight training too, just so that I can firm up as I go along. I'm hoping that the walking/running and the weight training will keep my weight loss going at a decent rate. I'd really love to lose another 50 lbs in these next 23 weeks.
