Scale is moving... the wrong way!
I weighed 146.5 at the beginning of last week, but I've been creeping steadily up since then, clocking in at 150.5 this morning. It's not TOM, I haven't been eating excessive sodium, and I haven't been cheating, eating new foods, or overlooking hidden carbs. In fact, I'm eating pretty much exactly what I eat every week, and I've been losing steadily up until this sudden gain. It's flat impossible that I've gained half a pound of fat per day, and there's been no change on the pant-o-meter, so I'm assuming it's water-related. However, I'd like to know why I've started retaining water like this all of a sudden.
There are only two things that I'm doing differently. One is that I started lifting weights about two weeks ago -- I'm getting married in May and need to tone up a bit. However, I'm only working out for 45 min 3x per week and using 3 lb. weights, so I seriously doubt that I've put on more than an ounce or two of muscle! The other thing is that I've finally gotten back to drinking my water like I should have been -- I got really off-track with it over the holidays, but now I'm working on-site at a client's and can't just drink diet coke instead. I'm down to 2 diet cokes a day and knocking back 2 liters of water during the workday and another 1 or so in the evening.
Can drinking adequate amounts of water and/or starting resistance training lead to this kind of water weight gain? Again, there's no other explanation I can think of, as I just finished up TOM right before this all started and haven't been eating anything that should cause this. I've been on low-carb long enough now (5 months today!) that I don't think it's just a weird body-adjustment thing, either. Anyone have any words of wisdom?
