Default pumpkin

Hi everyone,
I'd just like to ask if any of you know where I can find pumpkin (canned or fresh) in UK supermarkets. It's such a great substitute for potato... And I read somewhere that it's only about 4 carbs per 100g (raw), which seems really good as it tastes kind of sweet. Anyone know if i'm ok eating it?? Almost seems too good to be true
Thanks!
Abi.

I asked at my local Sainsbury's they don't have canned pumpkin, and only have the fresh ones in October i wonder why .......lol

Do you have a local Green Grocer? if they don't stock them they maybe willing to get one in for you. (Mind you i have no idea when these are in season, they maybe quite expensive)

If i have time i'll have a look in Somerfield tomorrow when i grab my lunch

If they're out of season when they are back it (must be around Halloween surely) buy a load cook them and freeze them in reheatable size portions.

I seem to spend my whole life doing this with fruit/veg at the mo for my youngest son (6months) !!!!

Hi Abi

I think they will be out of season at the moment. I am growing spaghetti squash, which is another winter squash, like pumpkin and hence think you will have to wait till October time before the fresh product arrives.

If you want a potato like vegetable try the recipes with cauliflower given in the recipe section of this forum. I've nver made it, but have heard several good reports.

Aha! That explains it... I suppose I'll have to wait till October, then. I live in London, so I'm sure i can track down a friendly grocer somewhere. Will have to do my research. I would love to find a place which sells Spaghetti squash though, after reading all about it in the recipes forum... Would be nice to have a vegetable 'pasta' substitute...

It will be interesting to see if we get spaghetti squash in our shops this year. They are gradually introducing more squashes, mainly grown in Egypt and South Africa. I'm growing my own spaghetti squash so I'll be able to supply my own needs!
