Barge--how to best help mom.
Hi everyone,
I hope you don't mind my posting here. I've been LC'ing on and off for almost three years, after the birth of my triplets. Since it worked so well for me and I lost the baby pounds, I convinced my overweight and diabetic mom to give it a try two years ago. She tried it but gave up after the pounds didn't fall off fast...
Well, fast forward to a few weeks ago. She's giving it another try, and she's committed. I'm so happy for her. (I'm trying to lose a nagging ten pounds--or more--as well.)
This time, unlike last time, she's trying to wean off of all the medication she's been on (anti-depressants and diabetic medicine). Well, I'm worried because my sister's really been giving me the business about this way of life. She's a disbeliever in Atkins and she also seems angry with me for convincing mom to have a goal of going off her meds (particularly the anti-depressants). By the way, my mom has consulted with her doctor about what she's doing. I've said all along to my mom that I want what's best for her health, and that she needs to be careful. But her blood sugar is totally normal now and she's dropped ten pounds!
I'm trying to lay low with my sister and not bother mom with what she's saying and feeling. But I'm worried that my sister will sabotoge her efforts and make her feel bad if my mom's ever feeling blue.
Any advice for me on how to manage this? Or is it not a problem for me to manage, and the results will speak for themselves? I know I'm not responsible for my mother's health, but I only want to be a postive influence and help her and keep her around to help out with these kids of mine! (Just kidding.)
I appreciate any thoughts or advice on the best way to help. Sorry so long!
Jill
