Default Can you taste ketones?

I'm on day 5 of inductions and putting out ketones at a "moderate" level according to my sticks. I know ketones can make your breath smell but can anyone else taste them? I have had this kinda sweet/metallic taste in my mouth all day and especially when I drink water. I can only figure that is from the ketones. It's not really pleasant, but tolerable.

thanks
Stefanie

for me personally I cam definatly tell with my morning breath. it taste a lot diffrently than what it use to taste like and I guess that I would kinda describe it the way that you described it so I guess thats what it is. I can't really notice it that much throughout the rest of the day after I brush my teeth.

Default Welcome to ketosis

When I started someone described it as "sucking on bandaids" . Yup, some people can definitely taste it.

Default I second the sweet taste!

I am assuming the sweet taste in my mouth is also from the ketones. Sometimes, it is so strong, my water actually tastes sweet. Steak did the other night too.

Hmm, if that is the worst side effect, I will take it!

Default glad i'm not crazy!

The taste went away by the end of the day yesterday. I will have to see what happens today. I am feeling self-conscious about breathing on people in case my breath smells funny. My DH is on atkins too so he probably can't tell.

Thanks
Stefanie

Yes, I can definitely taste the metallic taste periodically. It is not always the case... but often it is. In fact, I can taste it right now. I use listermint breath strips periodically throughout the day at work... so I do not kill people with my breath. It works very well for me and is SF.

I always liken it to having a tin can sitting on my tongue. I've been in ketosis since Sept, and no one has said that my breath stunk.......lol.

I started this WOE a little over a month ago and was in ketosis by the end of the first week but just today I started having the metallic taste in my mouth that people associate with ketosis. Is there a reason for the delay? If I up my water will it go away?

Thanks for the help, Linda

I can't taste it, but I smoke so my tastebuds aren't firing at full force.. I can tell, however, by the constant dry mouth.

Everything I ate tasted bitter for an entire day; including my water. It wasn't even tollerable for me; horrible! It only lasted one day so I'm not sure if that is good or bad. I was told it was ketosis but it only happened one day so I'm not sure.

Default I can't

I can't smell them either...I have been told that some people just can't. I have patients at the hospital in ketoacidosis putting off lots of ketones and the other nurses will say whew just smell all those ketones...me nothing

So i guess when I was in ketosis I was annoying other but at least not myself

I can taste em, and other people smell it on my breath. It's embarrassing sometimes. But I know I'm burning fat so it's a good thing. Supposedly upping your water intake will rid you of the dreaded-keto breath, not for me though. I drink 2 gallons a day and can knock a buzzard off a sh!t wagon with my keto breath. Those Listerine strips are the only thing that tames it for awhile for me.
