Default Women's Clothes...Can be a Downer...

OK Gals,

Went shopping today for a christmas dress/outfit to wear to a holiday party hosted by a man that works with my husband and his wife who always flirts with my husband. (OK did you follow that?) Anyway, I was so proud of myself recently because I went to the Gap and Old Navy and fit into a size 12...(I SAID SIZE 12) They were tight but zipped and everything. I went to try on some dresses and no go....I even tried up to size 16 blouses. I couldn't find a size 16 in the skirts so I tried 14...Nope. I was so depressed.....But guess what I did...I went back to Gap and Old Navy and tried the 12's on again. They still fit.

Yahoo....

P.S. My husband is so cool...he said we definately have to go to this party to show me off.

See ya all,

Have a good night.

Martha

Just wanted to say, that I read an article in the newspaper just a couple of days ago about this. As it is, researh shows that people will pay a higher price for a smaller size- so guess what the dept. stores are doing! I'm not trying to bring you down or anything, I just found it interesting that I just read it & now someone mentioned it. As far as I'm concerned, congrats on the 12's I wish I would fit in them too. Just check the price tags!

Default M, L, Xl, Xxl

They're all in my closet. Bought pants at Sam's in my expected XL; after all, Sam's is cheap. Tried on at home--fell off. Back to Sam's for the L, fit fine.

Picked up an XL sweater while I was there--it looked smallish. WAY too tight for the way I chose to dress. It goes back.

I need to carry a tape measure.

Yep do not get hung up on the number on the tag unless you plan on wearing it hanging out for everyone to see, LOL

The number means nothing, cause the size 12 you fit in now at your weight, is far different then the size 12 in my closet, why?? Cause it depends on where it is made and yep who is marketing it. I remember going into a large ladies store, found a sweater I liked and she said Oh a Xsmall is what you need, sure it fit, but brought it home, their extra small turned out to be the same size as all my regular Larges, LOL Of course this was a very upscale store, somewhat like old navey.
So don't worry about what you fit into, it's better to look at it as what I used to fit into, thats where teh difference comes.
Besides I think everyone will agree they have at least 2 sizes in their closet, I know I do 10, 11,12 and they all fit me fine.

So have a great time at the party, Cheers kathy

This too drives me nuts. I've been searching for new jeans. I'm a loose 16 most of the time. Sometimes a 14. The problem is the waist! I hate the gap I get in the back. I've tried all different kinds of fits. Even the low rise ones. No luck. Even men's jeans. Still no luck. I'm stuck wearing the yucky jeans that I've been wearing.

I thought shopping was supposed to be fun.

Look for Bill Blass. No matter what size I've been, his stuff fits the best.

I totally feel this post, man. I can wear anywhere from a size 12 dress to a size 18 pants (well I love to wear my pants just falling off me, much to the chagrin on my GF). Or a size 14 jeans, yada yada. It totally depends on the store and how they cut the clothes.

I try not to focus on the labels at all. Who gives a crap, really? It's just an arbitrary "size system" that some idiot that I don't know has made up anyway, so who cares?

Default I've never really understood the concept...

"Great fit...."

What does that mean? I mean, what are the chances your body has the same general outline as mine? What "fits" in one designer's line for one person is rarely going to give the same effect on someone else's.

For me, Levi 560s are the jeans answer, whatever I weigh. I'm an inch bigger in my hip bones than "standard" so no matter what I weigh, I'll always be broad in the tail. I never even try Lee jeans anymore.

I've done really well at Nordstrom and don't bother with some of the other department stores. The trick is to find a line that works and stay there.

I have NEVER found shopping to be "fun." Hate it. Too many bad memories of stuff that's too expensive, doesn't fit, don't know what department I belong it. Blank out in a mall. Thank goodness for the internet and nordstrom.com and easy returns.

I took my size 10 teenage daughter to the Gap to buy some jeans. Being built like a woman instead of a waif, she fit into NOTHING in the store. She was in tears, I was fuming. I took her into the nearest department store, and she went straight into a size 10 pair of jeans, in the Juniors' department, with no problem. I think some of these retailers design for girls who are built like boys.
