Shrimp Chips
Does anyone have any nutritional information about these? I read somewhere that they're made from dried shrimp and egg whites, which implies that they're low-carb...
For those of you who aren't familiar with this treat, they're the puffy, often colourful "chips" (crisps) that are served with Peking Duck at Chinese restaurants. My mother used to make them when we were little. When you buy them, they look like translucent poker chips. You drop them in hot oil and like magic, they puff up into crispy chips, perfect for dipping. Texture-wise, they're like pork rinds, only they're not quite as salty, if memory serves me correctly, and they don't taste quite as greasy/porky.
The next time I'm at an Asian grocery store, I'm going to take a look for them.
***UPDATE***
Well, I took another look around and it looks like these are made with tapioca flour, which are high in carbs. Too bad. I'm still going to see if I can find some nutritional information on them the next time I go for Asian groceries.
