Default Newbie Question

Hey everyone.
I just completed 4weeks of atkins and have reached my target weight. My question is, I lift weights (heavy) four times per week to gain mass. I started to feel a slight endurance dip due the low carbs but thankfully I did not have much fat to lose, but now how many carbs per week should I be consuming? Obviously I wont go back to the past but I am not sure where I should start.

Hi AZHunter,

That's the million-dollar question!

But first let me say congratulations on your successful weight loss. That's terrific. You did really well in only 4 weeks.

I'm assuming that you have been on induction for these 4 weeks. Finding the answer to your question is what phases 2 thru 4 of the Atkins’ diet is all about. That is, slowly adding in more carbs and more types of foods until you learn at what level you can maintain your weight. So don't skip those phases, they are very important.

When you are adding in more carbs you might want to start by adding them to the meal before your workout to give you extra energy for the workout, or to the meal after your workout to provide extra nutrition for the muscles to grow.
