OK lately I have been jogging for 2 miles a day jog/walk and then I stepped on the scales this morning and I was up like 4 lbs! Any idea why?

Dustin, my guess is that you ae putting on a little muscle which is heavier than fat. This is good because muscle will help burn fat for fuel. If you wait a couple of weeks, or so to weigh yourself again, you shouldl see a whoosh.

It could be many reasons, Dustin. Is it very hot where you live right now? Are you drinking extra water if it is? Are you drinking enough water to begin with? (minimum 2 litres a day). Are you eating anything new that might be high in sodium? (Sausages, processed foods like SF pudding, jello, etc).

Are you eating enough? Short changing yourself on calories to create a greater deficit between what you eat and what you burn could put too much stress on your system, especially if you're exercising a lot. A stressed body will hold onto water and fat, instead of what we would think it would do, which is lose more.

Keep in mind also that weight fluctuations are normal, and that unless you ate 14000 calories above maintenance you did not gain 4 lbs of fat!

You also recently had that cheat meal. Have you been allowing other carbs to sneak in?

It could be muscle building with the additional exercise. Rememebr to drink additional water as well to rehydrate the muscles so they don't hang deperatly onto water weight. If it is a case of building muscle, then throw out your scale and goal weight and instead focus on fat % and keep buffing up

Hi Dustin;

I know the feeling!!!! I find after a really heavy workout (weights or aerobics) I gain for a couple of days (it's water.....).

Yesterday I did a 10 K walking race (I came in FIRST overall!!!!) and this morning I was up 4 lbs, probably due to the heat, some muscle soreness and the glass of wine I had to celebrate my win.

I drink 4-5 litres of water a day, and even more when I work out or race.

Not to worry, these things are NORMAL.

Take care, Julie

Hi Dustin,
so glad you asked that question. I have been going to the gym 3 or more times a week for the last couple weeks and seem to have stopped losing, maybe even gained a pound, bumming me way out! I'll just have to hang in there and keep my eyes on the long range goal.

Yep. . . its muscle! I used to work out religiously and during my first two weeks working out REALLY hardcore I put on EIGHT pounds. . . but dropped almost two sizes! If you're not noticing inches gained then don't even sweat it!

Hey Adriana,
do you post on the Wet Canvas site/glass forums? You should see them in the lobby talking about Atkins, I couldn't believe it. Funny how certain parts of life just collide. I posted the link to this forum, it has been really helpful for me. Do you have a link to your beads/site/ebay auctions?

Hey Maria! I came here because of your link girlie!!!
I've been watching everyone duke it out on wetcanvas over this. . . . phooey. . I'm gonna do it. . . ONE I'm a little over 5'8" and when I wear a size ten people SWEAR I'm a size eight. . .so that's all I need to be happy, TWO my doctor recommended it, THREE I've seen so many people lose so much and I do incorporate exercise into my daily regime so it's not like I'm sitting on my duff waiting for it to fall off ya know? Anyway, like I said in the glass forum, different strokes for different folks. . . I HOPE this works for me though!

I still can't figure out the "link" stuff. . .

www.lampwerks.com for a FRIGHTFULLY pathetic site right now . . . I haven't even put a real site up and ebay ID ADDIEBEADS. . .
