Default Communion and lip gloss

Now there's a heading to get attention! This is probably one of the lamest questions from a newbie you'll find.

Is my Communion bread and grape juice going to be a problem? I mean, is there some huge chemical reaction taking place as the result of the minute sugar ingestion? Because, well to be honest -- I've never looked forward to communion so much in my life. It tastes AMAZING now. And like any good Protestant - I assume that if it feels good, it must be bad for me.

Any answers?

Also, I'm finding that my Blistex raspberry flavored lip gloss is tasting pretty amazing these days too. I checked the ingredients and there's no sweetener of any kind in it so I'm going to assume it's OK. I haven't got to the point yet where I'm eating the whole lipgloss at a time. I just tend to lick my lips a lot more and notice how yummy it is.

Yes, it's a very sad thing.

Funny you should post this!!! Last week just as we were about to partake of World Wide Communion, I whispered to my friend "how many carbs. do you think I need to record for this?" It seems we have to be on guard at all times for those sneaky little buggers. However, I would consume many carbs. to be able to participate in the communion service - it is very special and holy to me.

I also understand about the lip gloss - I even find myself not buying anything that has a pleasant fruity smell, or vanilla scent, anything that reminds me of food!! Why push it?? Maybe a peppermint flavor would calm your thoughts??? I know lavendar is suppose to calm people, but I am not sure I would enjoy that on my lips.

Hi there Chryslin,

Other people have asked about communion wine/grape juice and wafers/bread before.

The consensus pretty much seems to be that it's only a small amount, and the spiritual benefit is such that a small amount of carbs is not worth worrying over. Several people have commented that they have remained in ketosis.

Not unless you're drinking the entire chalise of juice and eating the whole loaf of bread.
Seriously...with the amount that you typically get with a communion service, the carb count would probably be fairly small, maybe 5 grams or so, and I can't see it being a huge problem.
With something as important as a religious ceremony, I'd say it's more important to participate than to worry about how many carbs you're getting on that one day.

Hi.

>>"Also, I'm finding that my Blistex raspberry flavored lip gloss is tasting pretty amazing these days too."

Don't worry about it - I think my *toothpaste* tastes like candy now! Seriously, though... I think most of us prior to our LC days were constantly bombarding ourselves with super-sweet and over-processed food. This really dulls the senses. When you go back to eating simple food, your sense of taste readjusts and you can *appreciate* flavour more, especially sweet ones. Kinda like how you don't notice the way a room smells until you leave and come back...

More like less than a gram for the wafer, I'd guess.. they're not even a bite.

Besides, you only have to feel guilty if it's a CATHOLIC wafer...lol! (Many years of Catechism have made me learned in the ways of guilt! lol...)

I can't even make my weirdest observation without offending half teh board..but rest assured, it's a doozy!!

Thank you everyone for the input. And Potatofree, I love all your comments. I must be shallow or completely incapable of taking offence!
