I have always drank coffee and have an occassional diet soda with no bad effects. Other people report weight stalls, so I guess you have to try it and see. Personally, I feel that if this is to become a way of life, not a diet, it has to be something you can live with.

For the first two weeks I did the induction like he said after that I switched to regular coffee and a diet soda here and there. I've had no problems either, but everyone is different.

Diet Rite soda is made w/splenda, you might want to try that. Its hard though b/c not every place sells it... just do your best.

I have had a 2 diet sodas with Nutrasweet after the 1st 2 weeks, and I didn't notice a stall then. I have heard people say that caffeine and even Splenda can stall them.

I think it is important that everyone understands what here and there means... If you replace water with soda or coffee, you will not be hydrated well (much moreso with coffee than with soda). It is important to drink mostly water with maybe one or two sodas or coffee (total not each) a day... many people dont understand moderation when it comes to drinks... I think that is a large part of the reason the diet calls for little to no sodas.. anyway.. my point is that sodas and coffee in moderation should be fine...
