Default Hidden Exercises

Does anyone else do what I call "hidden exercises"? I can never find time at home to do an honest workout - but while at work, (a desk job) I occasionally take a break and walk up-stairs (no more elevators for me!) and while I'm doing it, I walk slowly and contract my stomach muscles, making them do the lifting of my legs - I can definitely feel it in my stomach when I'm done....

I guess what I'm getting at is that whenever I have a chance, I try to sneak in a "mini-workout". (Of course I do this when no one else is around!)

If anyone has any other exercise suggestions, please, let me hear 'em!

Default Stomach Vacuumes

Sounds weird, but they work. I have been doing them for 6 weeks now and I'm noticing a difference.

From Muscle Media Magazine
Quote:
Stomach Vacuumes :

Perform a vacuum by exhaling all the air in your lungs, sticking your chest out, and trying to touch your belly button to your backbone (don’t worry, you will never accomplish this). Hold for 10 to 20 seconds, relax, and repeat. The simplest way to perform vacuums when starting out is from a kneeling position on all fours. As you begin to master the vacuum in this position, you can also perform it in an upright kneeling, seated, or standing position. Like anything else, the more you practice the easier it becomes and the more control you will have over flexing your abdominals. Eventually, you will be able to do these anywhere, from driving in your car to standing in line at the grocery store
.

Yup - I do these things whenever I remember - here's another - in line ups at stores and banks, one leg taking your weight the other one for balance, high up on your toes, force down, get those calves working . Too bad if people think you're nervous.

Another trick - 10 minutes of abs work is great but not if you walk around for the rest of the day with your stomach muscles totally relaxed. I work at spending the WHOLE day with my lower abs at 25% tension. That too, becomes a way of life.

Good Ab tip NAT! I'm going to start them today.
Sponge, I do your leg trick all the time (who cares what THEY think??)
Never tried holding any tension on my Abs for a real length of time.
I sneak in little extras here and there--- always park my car at the end of the parking lot when I go somewhere(this started 4 yrs ago when I bought my new car-- no dings yet!!)
Always use the stairs--- afraid on escalaters and elevators.
When I take my garbage out to the dumpster-- about a half block-- I make a big circle up the road and around the block and come back from the other side.
Can't think of them all--but I have lots of little things I made a habit over the years and I'm sure they add up for something!
Ellie
HEY MIN--- I think I saw somewhere that sponges leg excercise can be done while sitting at a desk too!

Smile My office tricks

When I go to the bathroom during work, I stand with my legs apart and pretend I'm rollar blading (I shift to my right leg and kick back with my left leg, as if rollarblading, then I go to the other side) I do this for a few minutes and boy does it wake me up and give me energy!

Great ideas.. I play a game of catch-up with somebody ahead when I walk down the street. I try to spot somebody who's walking about my pace ahead, speed up and try to catch up to them.
I also try to do stretching/muscle tensing/relaxing whenever I am standing waiting for something.

I try to do this whenever I get a chance, stand facing a corner, put the hands headheight against the wall, and lean towards the wall. It's great for the upper back and for getting rid of tension.

clasp the hands behind the back, bend forward, and try to push my arms as high as possible.
