Pippa,

The best thing is to read your Atkins book and eat what he says is okay through induction and thereafter. Most vegies may have a natural sugar, but vegies are good and should be eaten. Even with the Atkins induction, 20 grams a day can go a long way, as you can subtract the fiber from the carbs in vegies to come up with ECC, effective carbohydrate count, which you are allowed 20 of during atkins induction. But re-read or read the book and he tells all the different vegies that are OK to eat, and there are lots of them.

Good luck
Cindy

you can have whole foods that have natural sugars in them. Veggies are good foods. Eat plenty of them, following the guidelines of your LC plan. The natural sugars in them are minimal (except for a few that have moderate amounts, like peas and carrots, which you should limit to "condiment" proportions)

Cream also has sugar in it--lactose, occurring naturally. That's okay, also as it is eaten in small amounts.

Once you're into your plan two weeks, you'll be able to add fruits--berries and melons have fructose (occurring naturallly) but also many phytochemicals that are good for us.

What you can't eat is added sugar--cane sugar, beet sugar, evaporated cane juice, high-fructose corn syrup, fructose, dextrose, sucrose, etc.

The best way to eat is always natural, whole foods, prepared yourself. That way you know that there is no added sugar at all in them.

You might want to read this , too

HTH!
