Question psyllium husks

I've read these could be helpful on a low carb diet - is this true? Do they contain any carbs...??

Thanks!

Hi spamchev,

The husks sre all fibre (so no countable carbs). They keep you regular as constipation is a problem for many people on this diet. They also help if you get problems the other way too.

Generally they are a good idea - I take them as do many people here.

I saw your question about supplements and if you take a calcium/magnesium combination supplement (2:1 ratio) it may help with constipation. I found it had the opposite effect and caused the dreaded D (at 3 tabs per day & had to cut down to 2). So, you could kill 2 birds with one stone!

Also, make sure you've got enough water and high-fiber veggies!

spamchev: Are you remembering to subtract out the fiber from the FitDay carbs? Is there a label on the package you bought that lists carbs and fiber?

Well, I'm looking at a pot of Holland and Barrett 'Regucol' Psyllium Husk Powder at this very moment. It says:

Fibre 95 per cent
Carbohydrates 0 per cent.

spamchev: According to the numbers on FitDay, a tablespoon of unground husks would net 0.4 carbs - ground husks per tablespoon would net 0.7 carbs. HTH
