Default oat flour

I see oat flour used in recipes. I checked our stores all we have is the 5 minute quaker oats. I sometimes order from Netrition but they don't have it either (I like their flat s/h rate; I just wait till I need several things). I see Bob's Red Mill website has it but I hate to pay s/h for one item (and s/h from OR to TN wouldn't be cheap--more than the item cost). Any ideas for a substitute?

Check a health food store in your area, I find a LARGE variety of flours are available in them.

There are no health food stores here--we live in the boonies--it would be a 2-3 hr drive one way to find something like that. If Walmart or Kroger doesn't have it, we don't have it.

You could make your own by putting uncooked oatmeal into a food processor. It won't be as nice as real milled oats, but its close.

I do this; I use the best oatmeal I can find (nutritionally speaking); Robin Hood Wild Oats (if you have this brand) or any really old-fashioned oats, such as Scotch style or Pinhead style...

Whiz in the processor til really fine.
