Default question

Hi! First of all this site and everyone on it has been great. It has really helped me to stay focused. Anyway my question is as follows: I am on day 10 and have lost 8 pounds- but after day fourteen I would like to try one of those Atkins bars for breakfast (because I am sick of eggs!!!) they say they are net 2 carbs- so if i want to still lose weight can I have one of these and just count the net carb of 2 for my total of 20 carbs a day? I hope this question makes since. Thanks!!! Alicia

Hi Alicia,

You can certainly try one if you like - but just be aware that they cause many folk to stall. They contain sugar alcohols which produce no insulin reaction according to Dr Atkins.

Alas, for some folk, that is not so, and they stall when they eat food containing them. But for many others, there is no problem. It's very much a YMMV (your mileage may vary) situation.

How do you know if you'll be affected? The only way is to try them and see.

One more thing: sugar alcohols tend to also be laxatives and many folk (such as yours truly) avoid them for that reason.

If you go to "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of the screen, you'll find some more sugar alcohol information.

I only rarely eat eggs for breakfast. Try thinking outside the box. You don't have to eat "breakfast food" at breakfast time unless you want to. And have a look at "Breakfast Ideas" in our breakfast forums for some, um, breakfast ideas!
