Default Atkins or SBD...or Atkins/SBD?????

Hi. I'm new to this forum and almost through with my first week of induction into Atkins. I have two big issues--"induction flu" and a serious craving for fruit. I feel like I really need to eat fruit and the SBD seems to promote fruit eating activity much more than Atkins. Any advice?

Honestly you can have fruit on either plan. Both recommend waiting until after the second week though. I think people on the Atkins boards may come off as not being fruit friendly but that really wasn't the case with doctor Atkins himself. After two weeks you can add back berries and melon with and slowly you can add more back during OWL. With sbd you can add a wider variety of fruits faster but the serving amounts are similar to atkins. In the end, atkins actually approved more fruits than SBD. *watermelon for example is okay on atkins although I never see it on an okay list for sbd*

Now during the induction I did add extra veggies at the end because I was still feeling pretty rough myself. Try an extra cup or two of veggies and see how that does with you. Also make sure you are eating enough calories. I know I ate way too little in the beginning just because I wasn't hungry. In the end, I would choose the diet plan that I felt I could stick with for the rest of my life because in the end, you don't want the weight coming back.

Best of luck!
Jenn

Default Hello Kimmiek

Hello glad you have joined us. I myself prefer Atkins. When I tell people that I'm on Atkins they are like all that meat you are eating, that's not good for you. When actually I'm not eating that much more meat than I was before. I'm not eating all the other junk is all. I do eat lots of vegetables and the low glycemic fruits, mostly berries. I think Atkins helps you get your weight off faster by suggesting you stay on induction longer if you have more weight to lose which is good. If you start adding in sweet fruits too early you may slow your weight loss. The guy that wrote South Beach was actually somewhat a student of Atkins and Atkins sent HIM patients. I prefer Atkins.

Default thanks for the help

Thanks. I am still feeling really achey today so my husband went out and purchased some supplements for us to take. I think we will stick with Atkins, but I hope I get over this pain quickly. I wasn't expecting this. He speaks of a couple days of "feeling off kilter" but nothing of potential for extreme discomfort. I guess we'll see how the supplements help.
