I used them during induction! They're apparently ok (according to Atkins.com) from early on...

Can anyone tell me if the shakes are any good? They were on sale when I started this woe (over seven months ago) so I bought a six pack of strawberry and one of chocolate. Still haven't tried them. I tried slim fast years ago and they were terrible and so much of the low carb food is too. I've found that I like most other brands of lc food better than Atkins so I've been keeping clear of the shakes.

Are the OK as is or do they need to be doctored before drinking?

Barb

Congrats AFwife on your lose so far. I suggest following Atkins carb ladder for adding new things slowly so add more salad and vegies first, then cheeses, nuts, and berries. The shake is legal for you anytime in OWL, but some people say it can slow them down or stall, especially in the early stages. Like Atkins says in Chpt 14 ongoing weight loss, you get more choice and "can craft a weight loss regimen that is uniquely yours" Good luck and have fun.

Thanks everyone. I've already added the extra vege's as of last week. So I thought I start on the nuts tomorrow but started today instead. Don't like macadamia nuts very much, prefer the pecan's. The chocolate shake I had for an afternoon snack today after I found the info on the atkins website. It was GOOD! I'll have to remember to do it perhaps once a day if I really need a snack and don't have one, a shake will do just fine. Cause they are really good and I'm afraid I'll drink like 3 or more a day. Though they are only 1 net carb for count, I don't want it to stall me.

Fitznoski, the chocolate one's like I said are real Good. I don't like any other flavor. Not cause they are bad, just cause I prefer chocolate.

Thanks again everyone,

Lily

I couldn't stand the shakes, esp the canned ones.

What I do though is take just 1 scoop of the Atkisn shake and mix it in with 1/2 cup of yogurt. It make sa pudding like thing that's decent. I also found using just one scoop instead of 2 when trying to make an actual shake made it more tolerable.

I prefer the EAS ready made shakes or designer whey protien powder. They are also a ton cheaper.

I prefer the pre-mixed ones from Atkins, but they are kind of spendy. The EAS carb control ones aren't bad, but kind of bland, IMO. They taste even better if you kind of half-freeze them, just until barely slushy.

I have yet to find a powder that I can use "as directed" without having to add cream, Splenda, or blend it with ice....

I used the premade cans of Atkins shakes in induction as a meal replacement. I had to drive my son to summer camp every morning and I would have it as my breakfast. I found them to be better tasting than slim fast and they are filling. I also keep some at work in case I am running late and miss breakfast. I have not had a shake in weeks but they I fell they are a very convenient option.

I had shakes from the very beginning. I like to have a chocolate shake, put it in the blender with ice and some peanut butter. It is good.

I'm not a big breakfast eater, so when I'm on the run all morning, I grab a shake. The Atkins chocolate taste great to me; Wal-mart seems to have the cheapest price. I also buy the EAS which are cheaper, esp. at the warehouse clubs.

Very important to pour them into another glass to drink; that steel can imparts a nasty taste. Also, serve chilled.

Bottoms up!

I use the powder strawberry. It tastes really good and as small bits of real strawberry in it. The lumps get annoying though!

I find the premade atkins ones fill me up and last me me for longer than the eas ones bc the eas ones are low fat.

I made the mistake of having one for breakfast then going to a class and not having anything else packed I was famished in 30mins whereas the atkins ones last me for hours b4 I can even think about food again. Takes me awhile to drink one as they are so filling

Even the ATkins site recomends not to have more then 1 shake OR bar a day. Bars and shakes in moderation are ok, but remember part of this WOE is to learn healthy eating habits that include whole foods and well rounded meals. Many people do have problems stalling on the bars, while fewer have problems with the shakes. They can slow or stall weight loss though.
