Default How long will it take?

Currently I'm at 250 lbs. I'm wanting to get down to 165, which is my ideal weight. I'm ready to diet for however long I have to to get rid of all this weight. 85 lbs seems like a lot... But I'll do anything in my power to get rid of it. I'm a week into my diet and have already lost a couple pounds. I'm going to update my profile and get everything situated and I will for sure have some "before and after" pics to add to this website as soon as my transformation is complete. Anyway, if someone could please give me a general idea of how long it will take of low carbing to get rid of all this weight, I'd appreciate it. Any estimate will do. Thanks.

From what I have observed here, it takes between 8 months to a year to lose 85 pounds. However, that will vary depending on your gender (men tend to lose more quickly), how closely you follow induction, and whether you exercise or not. Also, some people stall because they are not eating enough calories or are not eating the right proportions of fat/protein and carbs. You will just have to see how it all works for you. I have been on Atkins before and lost much quicker than i have this go-round, but I am happy because I plan to make this way of eating a way of life. Carlene

There are a lot of variables, including how much you are going to eat and exercise.

I've lost 57lbs in 3 months, but I've done 60-90min of working out every day to reach that.

We can give you a time frame as far as what we've experienced but we can't possibly tell you, oh it'll take you 6 months cause it may take less or longer.

Plus there's the fact that one's you get closer to goal the weight also slows down.

I've lost 100 pounds in 6 months but who's to say you or anyone else will do the same. Take it as it comes and enjoy it and don't look back.

Cheers!

I would concur with the previous responses, it's all individual, and that's why doing comparisons with others can be bad for morale. Set yourself mini-weight goals along the way, this helps highlight your accomplishment;then give yourself a non-food reward when you reach a mini-goal.

Please strike the word "diet" from your vocabulary and go with Way of Eating (WOE), I'm not trying to be politically correct, but pointing out that we need a mindset that reminds us that in order to succeed, we will need to follow the low carb principles for the rest of our lives.

1-2 pounds a week is healthy.

So somewhere between 1 and 2 year.

I am a poor exerciser. I do my pilates before bed and take a walk regularly in the spring and fall, but winter is too cold and summer too hot. I started Atkins in March of 2003 and lost 48 pounds by December, the first 30 were off in three months. I stalled off for a couple of months and wavered from the plan on and off for 5 months, and gained some back. Now I'm back on plan since the Top of May and down 12 pounds. Simply put, everyone is different and YMMV (your mileage may vary)

There's so many variables its impossible to tell. I lose weight extremely slowly. It's taken me over a year to lose 30 pounds. Its coming off a bit faster now that I'm reducing my calories too, but still, it just depends entirely on you. Your metabolism, your exercise habits, how much you cheat, how many calories you eat and everything else.

I plan to eat like this for the rest of my life, so even though I'd like to be thinner faster, its not like I see some sort of carby reward at the end of the process. So there's no big hurry for me.
