Default Eggs OK??

My husband has two boiled eggs for breakfast each morning and a 3-egg omelette on Sat and Sunday morning. Is there anything wrong with this? I understand that dietary cholesterol is not really significant in relation to blood cholesterol levels . PS There is a family history of high cholesterol but not sure if this is chicken or egg (excuse the pun) as his mother is not very fit, overweight etc.

it's a little less, but most people count 1 large egg as 1 carb gram.

Have you checked out FitDay?? That can calculate exactly for you.

I had my bloodwork done just before I started Atkins in mid-February 03 and although my doctor isn't thrilled I'm doing Atkins, I promised her I would have my bloodwork done again in mid-June. I started eating eggs almost every day for breakfast and I although I do have high cholesterol I'm going to just wait and see what the results are in June. I'll be sure to post them in the Atkins thread. I'm losing weight, my blood sugar has been practically cut in half since I started Atkins and is now in the normal range, and I feel great. I'm not worried about the eggs! I guess I'm just trying to trust Atkins' philosophy for now. But if the cholesterol is higher in June, then of course I'll take notice, but I also think that once I've lost the weight I can tackle this other issue if it still exists. Many studies have shown that this WOL actually reduces cholesterol. Not necessarily significantly so, but your triglycerides (the most important number to pay attention to since it is the worst/evilest part of cholesterol)will go down as you lose weight because I believe this number is somehow connected to our excess body weight.

bellybgone,

I can't wait to see the blood test results for you. My husband had his blood tested after 5 weeks on the program, and the cholesterol can be high. The first time ever! He told the doctor that he has just started doing Atkin's, and the doctor told him to get retested in 6 months. So I guess he wasn't to worried about it. I have heard that some people do go up in the cholesterol count when first starting the diet.

Hi bellybgone:

I see you are worrying about eggs. I have been lc'ng since January 10, 2003 and wondered about the eggs. I had my blood tests in September and then March 5th after 5 weeks into lc'ng.

Here are my stats. They were pretty wonderful.

SEPTEMBER 30, 2002

Cholesterol 199
Triglycerides 188
HDL (Good) 70
LDL (Bad) 99
Chol/HDL Ratio 2.84

MARCH 5, 2003

Cholesterol 182
Triglycerides 99
HDL (Good) 77
LDL (Bad) 89
Chol/HDL Ratio 2.36

EXPECTED VALUES

Cholesterol 100-200
Triglycerides 0-100
HDL 50-60
LDL 0-129

Chol/HDL Ratio
Average Female 4.44
Average Male 4.97

My doctor was amazed and said to keep it up whatever I was doing.

What kind of cholesterol is high? If the HDL (good) is high, and the LDL (bad) isn't so bad, then having "high" cholesterol isn't something to be really concerned over (or as I understand it, anyway!).
