Default Butter and Mayo

In phase I, can you eat butter and mayo? Do they have to be low fat versions? Can you eat them in phase II?

Also, how does one eat cheese out at restaurants (for example on a chef's salad), since most restaurants don't have low-fat versions? Do you just eat the full fat kinds?

Thanks in advance!

Hi afcgirl,

You can use I can't believe it's not butter spray or olive oil on P1.No real butter or mayo at first although he does have us using it to make tuna salad, etc. in P2. in small amts. He almost always suggests reduced fat rather than no fat because they add sugar to no fat products(except cheese)

As far as the cheese,I almost always have mozzarella when dining out because it is almost always red. fat. Maybe you could request what you want rather than their usual.

I hope this helped you.

Linda

I use regular mayo..The recipes in the book suggest low-fat mayo, but a statement came out later saying to use regular mayo as it has good fat, not bad..

I also use regular mayo. That's one of the many inconsistencies in the book. He says in the book NOT to use reduced fat mayo, and then the recipes call for reduced fat. I guess everyone can decide for themselves and determine what works for them. I for one cannot stand reduced fat, so I use regular. I do try and be careful about how much I use though.

Thanks for the info, ladies.I'm sorry I gave some bad advice there but you are right,it was in the book to use reduced fat.I have not been using mayo just yet but I think you are right...moderation will be the key.I was also thinking that it would be good to read the label to see what kind of oil was used...that could be key, too.

Have a great SB week,
Linda

So, since you can eat mayo, can you eat chicken salad in phase I?

And are saying we can never eat real butter, even in phase II and III? That will be hard!

Thanks

Here's what the good fats/good carbs guide says:
Mayonnaise:
1 tbsp dairy free - good
fat free - avoid
light - limited
regular - 1 tsp is listed as good, 1 tbsp is listed as limited

Butter:
light (40% fat): very limited, no more than 1 tbsp
regular: avoid
whipped butter, light: very limited, no more than 1 tbsp
whipped butter, regular: very limited, no more than 1 tsp

Hope that helps!
