Default What do you eat as comfort food?

Hi everyone,

I have just lost my pet rat and feel like eating a whole bar of chocolate while watching a sad movie. I am not into Atkins products and was hoping you could give me some ideas of "LC feel better food".

Thank you in advance.

Coffee with cream and splenda
Cream Cheese warmed up with a little cocoa and splenda to taste ( don't use cocoa but since you mentioned chocolate I figured I would add that in)

Nothing. Drink water. You want to learn to stop emotional eating.

What about going for a long walk instead of eating. It will be hard but worth it in the long run!

hi daisie,

i'm sorry for your loss--i totally know what it feels like to lose a pet. i agree with diana-O and groove jock. you should just drink lots of water and go for a run or something. the whole emotional eating thing just isn't good. i try not to do that either. running really helps me get rid of any emotional issues i may have--especially when i'm angry...i take it out on the tennis ball. eating is just a monetary emotional compensation that gratifies you only for a short time...you know?

hope you'll feel better soon!

I agree that it's probably healthier to not reinforce the food/feelings connection, but if taking a walk or a nice warm bath and things like that aren't doing the trick and you really just want something... I'd say the recipe forum is full of ideas. My personal "thing" is my apple cinnamon herbal tea with some cream and Splenda.

Hi, Daisie.

First let me say I am sorry to hear about your pet. Being an animal lover, I know how horrible it is to lose one. :-(

Secondly, I love soup, and it always comforts me. My favorite used to be Chicken with matzah balls, but I can no longer have the matzah. So I just make sure I put in loads of chicken. :-)

For me it's a whey powder protein shake. I can customize it to suit myself with fresh or frozen fruit, yogurt, SF DaVinci syrups, etc., when I use vanilla or other flavored powders. For the chocolate protein powder I like to add the zero everything value Waldenfarms chocolate ice cream sauce, a TBSP or two of peanut butter for a Reese like drink or the SF DaVinci Kaluah like syrup with some coffee ice cubes. This makes me feel like I am totally self-induldging in the forbidden. In reality, the whey protein in either a one or two scoop portion, totally kills the appetite and any/all cravings. It stops me from thinking what I might want next to make me feel better/good because the protein deals most effectively with that mindset. I'm doing something very good for my body, yet the shake makes it so gratifying.

Although in an ideal world, it would be great to never eat emotionally. When really sad things happen, sometimes you just need a little comfort food. For me, it's a Ross chocolate bar and a couple strawberries. Unlike many other lc products, they don't cause as much bowl irritation, or have that nasty atkins product after-taste.

I have to agree that emotional eating isn't a good idea. I used to be a compulsive eater, and for the most part have kicked that nasty habit. But last night I had just had a rotten night and ended up eating 2 servings of Endulge ice cream. Not a bad treat, but overdid it a little. As long as you know the reasons for your eating, understand what you're doing and why, then it's not as harmful as unconscious emotional eating... we lost a cockatiel 2 months ago and I didn't eat for days... I definitely know how your world stops when you lose a pet......take care and know that life will go on, someday...

=0( i'm sorry about your rat hon... i used to have pet rats and know what cool pets they are so smart and sweet =)... as for the comfort food thing, i have never been an emotional eater, i just always ate because i like the food hehe, i agree with the others ... come here and journal or go for a run or walk, or read a nice book, but don't snack that's just setting yourself up for a not so good situation if you gain from it =) hugggs to you.... take care
