Default okay, what to do...

I have been doing so great with this WOE. until friday. we went to family dinner and what was served:

pasta
bread
salad
bread pudding

i should have just ate the salad, but i had a little of everything. at first i didin't feel 'guilty' but now i am up almost 5 lbs and have horrible gas. I cramped and felt bloated all weekend long, dh too.
i feel like i have sabotoged everything. AND Sunday we have to go to another family dinner. i think i am going to email sister in law and just tell her we made dietary changes and can't eat sugar, pasta or rice....would this be too rude?

i went back on Sat. to eating ONLY carbs...particulaly meat and salad...didn't go bac k to a strict induction, just made sure i new what was going in....plus a lot of water.

when dh and i went on Friday, i knew i should have taken something, but had the mindset, if this is a wol for me one night won't kill me....but now i am so upset. i am very frustrated.

last week i did the measurements too, almost 3 inches down in my waist. For me clothes fitting is more than scale but breaking 160 was so awesome.

advice please on how to handle this weekend and...do i just wait until i am back into ketosis??

thanks
jabs

Hi Jabs

Cannot advise on you going back to induction.
But you should just tell you Sister in Law that you cannot eat rices, pastas etc,and explain to her politley if she could fix you up something else seperatley from the others, or if she could base the meal on what you generally eat. While you are Low Carbing you will come on this situation again and again and it will not be fair on you or your hosts so just tell them straight out.

Almost everyone has gone what U R going thru. Keep in mind U cant gain 5 pounds of fat in 2 days. Its just water. Go back to eating no more than 20 carbs a day for awhile and drink extra water. I always take some food when I go to someones for dinner...usually meatballs. I have never had a host be offended. This is my WOL and I have to protect it. What if U had a bad allergy to a certain food? I treat my sensitivity the same way. I realize eating bread or desert wont kill me however I would suffer enough to know that I have to be careful. Stay off the scale for a few days and the weight will come off.

Part of a way of life is sometimes ending up in places/situations where carbs are all that is available. So part of the way of life is eating them rather than starving, knowing you'll have the water weight gain, and getting right back onto where you were when you slipped off. At other times, you may plan to take a meal off--a birthday, a holiday--and you'll do the same thing (if in maintenance, you may well take two-three days afterwards to cut back on carbs, but you don't need to go carb-free ever.) Every day, eat your green veggies, no matter what.

I'd add to what gwilson said. Not only is it like you have an allergy, from your symptoms, I'd guess you actually do have a wheat sensitivity (or allergy). It's a reasonable guess, at least, and you certainly have my permission to tell people this--and mention that you're suspicious about all other gluten-containing grains, as well. I don't think it's rude at all to tell anyone who may cook for you that you've changed the way you eat.

You've done great so far--nice weight and inches lost--and I'm sure you'll continue to do well in the future!
