Cool newbie

Hello to all. I am a newbie to this forum and the Atkins' diet.
I am in my fifth day. The head aches have passed, but I am now spending a lot of time in the b-room. I have read the New Diet Revolution; it really impressed and motivated me. I found the book very informative, but I have found these forums to be much better than reading a book. I feel like I'm not alone now. Thank-you everyone for doing this.

It's amazing to me that we have a large bowl of Halloween candy sitting on our counter and I honestly don't have the urge. It rather disgusts me to even think of sampling the goodies. I have always been a big chocolate lover, so this is a GREAT accomplishment for me.

I have been using the Ketostix for 3 days, the first day it was in the large color. 2nd day the same, but today it is only reading a trace. Is this normal? I didn't eat any thing high in carbs. My total intake today was the same as the last 5 days. I think I am kind of obsessed with the color of the stix. How often should I check my level?

I was in the U.S. Navy ten years ago and lost about 70lbs., which I gained back plus 30lbs. I have tried all methods of dieting with little or no success. I feel that this is my saving grace. Are you with me?

sorry so long thanks for reading about me

Brian

Hi Brian,

Welcome aboard!

The colour of the sticks varies depending on which time of the day you test and on water consumption/dehydration. As long as you carbs are at 20 for induction, you shouldn't worry about the light colour. Check for more info in the Tips section from the menu above.

Hey Brian, welcome aboard!!!

As Wa'il suggested, don't fret over the stix; trace to large, they all just mean you're in ketosis. You're just measuring those unused ketone bodies that have spilled over from your blood to your urine. If you've burned most of them as fuel, or if you've been drinking a lot of water the readings will be lighter; same for time of day. Use them as a guide, don't let them control your life

Best of luck to you. Looking forward to reading more about your low carb success!

Nat
