Default Question

Hi Everyone:
I have noticed in various recipes an ingredient called stevia. Can anyone tell me what this is exactly and where I can obtain it? I live in Toronto Canada. Thanks for your help!!
Anne.

Stevia is an herbal sweetener. It can be found here in the U.S. in health food stores. I have never seen it in the grocery stores, maybe because I haven't looked very much because I don't expect it to be there. It is a good sweetener without the problems aspertame and other artificial sweeteners can cause. I wouldn't know where to suggest you look for it in Canada. Good luck in your search.

You would find it in health or "natural" food stores in Canada, too! A word of caution, though.. start off with a small amount since not everyone likes the taste. I have heard you can put 25 g of Stevia powder (Bioquest brand) into a 250 g container of Chicolin to extend it - the Chicolin is mostly fiber, I believe. Haven't tried it myself but some of the Forum longtimers, like Karen and Ruth, highly recommend it.
