Post How a "Stop Smoking" ad helped me lowcarb

I'm a cheater... a roll here and there. An ice cream cone once a week. Oh I'm low carbing but boy am I abusing the system!
I still lose a pound here and there but unfortunately I lost my low carb benifits: I have asthma again, my aches and pains are back, and my allergies have been ridiculous.

Ok, I told myself, NO MORE CARBS... easier said than done.
Well anyways, today I was watching the news when a "stop smoking" ad came on, you may know the one, it stars the guy who played an alien on "Voyeger" That star trek series... well any who, He was protraying a man trying to give up smoking (there are a variety of ads with his portrayal) "I have 3 great friends, and when I wanted just one cigarette just one, none of them would give me one. I mean I had none, we were not near any store and they wouldn't give me one little cigarette!! (He's stomping and banging his hands on the ground) Then he stops - Thank you, Guys!! (with a smile).

It hit me! Carbs are like the same thing! I mean, one roll can be your undoing, it seems so harmless, so so nothing. But its not true. For a Carbaholic, Carbs will always be a drug (Oh it so unfair I know, trust me I know, but its true none the less). An ice cream cone will start you cheating more. It just does.
What's worse is that when you do eat the roll, you feel sick, you feel things you haven't felt since you started low carbing. and worse you feel weak.

Can I repeat this? Its not fair! She can eat ice cream, why can't I?!
Why? Because I was born with the ability to draw and sing, so I can't eat wheat or sugar, oh well....

Lessara, I like your way of thinking. I guess I never quite realize the gifts I've been given either. I know my friends respect me and trust my judgement, why can't I do the same for myself? I never feel worthy. Maybe I should realize that I have talents and I also have problems that need to be addressed. The problems should never overshadow the good things. I will try to remember your words when I am tempted by my "cigarettes".

Thanks,

Carol

Wow - thanks for the story. I don't have cable anymore, so I haven't seen that ad. I hope you get your mojo back - ditch that asthma and the aches and pains!! You can do it! The one thing I tell myself when confronted with the naughty things is simply the word "rich." That conjures up images of all the cool food I *can* have, and it leads me away from that 'deprivation' train of thought.

Take care!
