Unhappy Milk Craving

I have the strangest urge to drink milk lately. I don't like milk and have never really drank it. Lately when pouring it for my kids it is all I can do not to take a big drink or ten. The low carb milk doesn't satisfy it. I have taken calcium for years and still do, even though I tend to eat more cheese and spinach on this woe then ever before. Anyone go thru this before, or any advice.

I have always been a milk drinker, in fact it's one of the few things I really miss on this woe. Drinking an Atkins shake instead works for me.

Good luck -

Liz

If the low-carb milk doesn't do the trick and you're getting adequate calcium, protein, and water... my guess would be a sneaky variety of carb cravings. Another thought is maybe you actually have a dairy sensitivity... sometimes the foods we crave are the very ones we should avoid.

I agree with potatofree. I used to be a HUGE milk drinker, but now I am pretty much ok without it, I suspect it is b/c I am getting vitamins and supplements and eating veggies, drinking tons of water, etc... I'm not lacking anything milk provides. good luck!

Milk has a lot of sugar in it 13g in skim milk. If you are still having carb withdrawals those gremlins may be crying out for sugars. Hold tight you can win.

Hi Myagenda!

I can't tell you how glad I am that you posted this. My husband asked me the other day 'what do you miss' and the only thing I could honestly think of is a tall cold glass of milk.

I don't want chocolate or sweets or taters - just a tall, cold glass of milk.

I haven't tried the Countdown - the carb count looks a little scary to me. I know I can easily do without it, but boy it sure is nice to know I'm not the only one.

Pam

I love the Carb countdown milk but I never finish a half gallon before it spoils. The count is 3carbs for 8 oz. Cut your portion size if you think 3 is high. No sugar alcohols and no soy. Its only a "dairy beverage" because the dairy labeling laws are for pure milk only.

Thanks all! Lots of good advice. I never though it could be something in my diet causing me to crave it. Makes sense though. I recently cut cheese from my diet to see if it was keeping me from losing weight. I worked and I started losing again. Maybe this is why I am craving the milk. I never would have thought about it if no one had mentioned it.

I got the milk urge early on in the diet. I finally felt comfortable going out and getting some Hood Milk...I got chocolate and it helped me out.
I also am eating yogurt now so that helps out with my dairy cravings.
I used to drink 1-2 glasses of milk per day....so this WOE is a big change and adjustment for me.
