Default doxycycline?

I have a bacterial infection and my doctor has prescribed Doxycyline. I have not heard of it. When looking it up on the web I basically get the same info as the pharmacy pamphlet. I can't seem to find out WHY it can cause esophagal(sorry for the spelling) problems, or why you can't lay down for 30 minutes after. Also why can you NOT take it with food. I'm guessing the food thing is about absorption. But the other two? It kind of worries me. How strong of a medicine is this? It's 100mg 2x a day.

Not really sure, but I'd say because the drug tends to irritate or get stuck and cause irritation.

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/doxycyc_ad.htm#AR

This is the best drug site I've been able to find. There is mention of GI upset, including esophagus problems, but no real cause. only this statement makes me think it's due to direct contact causing irritation:

Rare instances of esophagitis and esophageal ulcerations have been reported in patients receiving capsule and tablet forms of the drugs in the tetracycline class. Most of these patients took medications immediately before going to body

I imagine that last word should be Bed, not body.
