Question is there such a thing as a "atkins" set point?

okay ive been on atkins induction for 2 weeks (sun it will be), and in those 14 days i only dropped 7 or 8 lbs, and what my question is, since u can safely stay in induction for months until getting close to ure goal weight...is it possible that you have a set point u cant go past while doing atkins, because im gonna do induction for another 2 weeks, just to see if i lose more weight, (and i just dont believe that i can lose more, cuz most of the weight i lost, i just didnt lose it, the scale has stayed the same all week, and im afraid that what i lost, is it, and i wont be able to lose more, is there any1 else out there who can give me some advice, on what they went through? with induction-in particular...cuz i wanna lose more, but i just feel that if i lost most of the weight in the first week, and all this past 2nd week, the scale stayed the same, i dont feel ill lose anymore in future weeks....please any1 help...
thanks
gisell

you really just have to be patient. The weight will come off...if you stick to it!!! Some weeks you will loose more than others. It may just be water retention, or your body catching up to the first 7 or 8 lbs that you lost. That is a great lose for a week!!! Keep doing what you are doing. I started on Jan 5/2004 and I've lost 37 lbs. I'm still on induction. So don't give up!

I agree with eddiesgirl. Did you measure when you started? you might see changes there but not the scale. Also, the 3rd & 4th weeks are notoriously bad for not showing scale changes. Lots of posts have been done on this.

I started 1/25/04 and am still doing induction levels til I'm down another few lbs, then I'll start up the carb ladder.

I'm assuming you read your book (forgot to look before typing).

Be sure to get your water in, and don't panic it the scale doesn't co-operate every day.

I agree with the last 2 posts. Your body needs time to adjust to the weight loss. I lost 6 lbs the first two weeks then nothing the next week. I have a friend who also does atkins and she told me I should be losing more weight. I was just patient and the weight loss picked up again. I realized my friend was wrong. We lose at our own pace for our own body time. Like in the story the turtle and the hare "slow and steady win the race." If you lose it slow but steady chances are it will stay off. Drink all your water, when I don't my weight loss slows drastically.

It's really interesting to compare posts of people who have been on Atkins for a month or less with other who have been following the WOE longer. With a few exceptions, most people experience weeks of no or little loss, but then the loss resumes, perhaps slowly, but definitely. So don't assume you won't lose any more. Hang in there.

yep i agree, remember it's a way of life, 7-8 pound loss for the first two weeks is a nice loss, it will start coming off again after the third week =) just hang in there and read your book like a bible, and read lots of posts =) good luck to ya

Hi

You and I have similar weight goals...

I stayed on induction, with a few exceptions (BIG July party with beer, THxgvg with turkey) from May to December. I lost about one or two pounds per week. If you truly lost 8 lbs in two weeks, be very proud (or eat something quick!) because it came off slow for me. 37 lbs in 8.5 months!

I have stopped losing weight because I have hopped off the wagon (although I am drinking a lo carb beer right now!), but I can lose more if I get back to it!

Good luck, you have to be patient!

I agree with all of the other posters. I lost a lot the first week and then nothing for a few weeks and then lost.. then stall and so on. I know this happens though, and I am getting there.. It takes time, but you will do it! Have faith and hang in there. It has changed my life.. it will do the same for you!
