Default EAS Protein Bars

on the http://www.lowcarbnz.co.nz/ website they state that the
EAS Protein Bars have a carb content of 3grams per bar but when I went to buy some yesterday they said on the front of the bar "3 grams impact per bar" but on the back in the grid it said "total carbs 18 grams per bar".

I'm not sure what "impact carbs" means can anyone please help explain?

If you look at the list of ingredients, you'll find they contain something like maltitol, erythritol or perhaps glycerine. The "ols" are sugar alcohols. Glycerine also acts in a similar way to the sugar alcohols.

According to Dr Atkins, the SAs don't affect our blood sugar, which is why the manufacturers are allowed to call them non-impact carbs.

However, many folk are indeed affected by them, so use with caution. They also can have unfortunate effects on the GI tract.

You'll find a lot more info about sugar alcohols in Low Carb Tips, on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

Yes thanks for the info Rosebud. I emailed Margret on the low forums site and she sent me a email explaining all.. I was so tempted I couldnt help myself and I brought one of the EAS bars last night and ate it all!
There is also this low carb chocolate made by Adavnt edge its sugar free and only 1g impact carbs the bar is 28grams and costs 1.89 and its truly amazing. these can be bought at Woolworths and Foodtown not sure about other supermarkets.. I will keep you posted to weather I still remain to lose weight.. I know I lost weight over night because I weighed early this morning so.. so far the chocolate bar and protein bar hasn't effected me.

Well I still continued to lose the weight after eating these bars.. I also found one that tastes just like a mars or moro bar.. was nice.. only problem is the price stops me from eathing them on a more regular basis.

Yes,
I have been eating the low impact carb bars sold in Foodtown, basically since day 14 of my Atkins plan. All 3 chocolate flavours are delicious,I usually have 1-2 a week, and so far has not stopped either my weight loss or Ketosis, but yes,be a little wary as over indulgence can result in a rather hurried sprint for the loo.
