Question slight burning sensation when peeing

Sorry for the indelicate post, but I just starting having some slight pain/burning after peeing. I drink plenty or water and have never had a bladder infection in my life. I have been on atkins about 3 months. My question is could anything at all about the atkins diet be causing this? I am going to my doctor tommorrow and I don't want him to tell me I have to get off this diet if I don't have to. I would like to be armed with information before I go.

Hi Robin ---

Sorry to hear that

Sounds to me like a UTI (urinary tract infection) and I dont believe Atkins has anything to do with that.

Hope everything works out well at the Doctors!
Take care,

Hi Robin! If you have pain when you urinate, get to your doctor IMMEDIATELY!! Please, it can move up to your kidneys. I have had these sorts of problems and kidney stones most of my life, certainly LONG before Atkins. It is important to take care of yourself now and drink some cranberry and grapefruit juice (not some a LOT). These juices are not on Atkin's but it won't hurt you for a week and you really need to get rid of this. Good luck and hope you feel better soon! Cindi

Hi Robin,

Yes, it does sound as though you could have a urinary tract infection.

There is no need to even mention your change in eating to your doctor tomorrow - it has nothing whatever to do with urinary infections.

While cranberry juice is known to help relieve symptoms of a UTI, there is no need to go off plan. Just drinking more water than usual will make you feel more comfortable.

Hi Robin,

Me again, if ya didn't want to drink the cranberry juice there is over the counter meds called AZO and AZO cranberry the cranberry ones is what ya might want to take. Also there is a "vitamin" or something like that, out and it is called cranberry something (sorry brain not working at the moment) but it is suppose to have as much cranberry in it as a glass of cranberry juice. The only thing is I'm not sure what if any effects it may have while on Atkins (it shouldnt make ya stall, but I dont know) where as the juice may make ya stall.

Just a thought. But make sure you do see your doctor tomorrow and see what it is. If it is a UTI then he will give you antibiotics. And probably tell ya to drink cranberry juice. (I have had a long history of UTI's and kidney infections) It is true, you never want to wait too long before seeing a doctor as I almost lost a kidney that way (waited a week before going) By the time I got to the ER I couldnt walk, and I collapsed. Ever since then I have had problems, but since AZO came out, I've been UTI and kidney infection free!

So hope everything goes really well. Let us all know how it turns out!

Take care
