New Study Confirms Low Carb Value of Tagatose; Finds Spherix's Sweetener Has a Glycemic and Insulin Response of Only 3 Percent

BELTSVILLE, Md., March 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Spherix Incorporated (Nasdaq: SPEX - News), today announced that a new study by a prestigious Australian University confirms the low carb value of Gaio® tagatose.

Gaio® tagatose was tested in a research study by Sydney University's Glycaemic Index Research Service (SUGiRS). The University states that, compared to glucose, which had glycaemic and insulinaemic responses of 100%, Gaio® tagatose produced very low glycaemic and insulinaemic responses of only 3%.

I've never heard of tagatose, so I did a little research. I went straight to Google to learn a little more and found several interesting links. I still have a lot of reading to do.

This could be very promising product. It seems as though it acts much like sugar except that it's slightly easier to brown. If the insulin response to tagatose is as low as research has found so far, this could possibly be the new LC sweetener. I'm curious to find if there are any negative long term effects or if it has addictive qualities, etc.
