Default Brown Fat vs. White Fat

Does anyone know of any good places for information on this. Most of what I find is promo for some weightloss product. I'm just interested in the "science" behind the two. ie....which is better/worse, easier to burn/harder to burn, white fat is stored _______/ brown is stored _______ . Relation to the terms Visceral and Subcutaneous fat etc.

Any links are appreciated.

Barry Groves covers this is in his book 'Eat Fat, Get Thin'. You can access his website at www.second-opinions.co.uk.

Basically, the body's use of energy is controlled by the brown fat. White fat is mainly an energy storage system whereas brown fat is an energy-using material stimulated by the nervous system - brown fat therefore reduces the amount of white fat. Brown fat's primary task is to regulate and maintain our body temperature, and plays an important part in weight control by burning off excess calories.

Brown fat is mainly located in the upper back, though there are clusters of brown fat cells throughout the body.
