Default sleeve replaces gastro surgery

http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/re...oryarticle=5844

This discusses a teflon sleeve replacing gastric surgery, and reproducing the 'benefits' of gastric surgery for the control of diabetes. I would consider this as research in exploring diabetes/incretin control, and NOT a 'ready for primetime' procedure. An obvious question is this totally reversible? The surgery is not. Also does it cause the malnutrition that Jenny suspected? If so we rather would have diabetes.

Interesting article Rob, but not a compelling reason (to me anyway) to be in the test group. They seem to make a big deal out of weight loss - both groups (control and test) were on a 1200/1500 calorie diet (women/men) with similar results. Glycemic control approved significantly (and especially A1c) as well as cessation of medication (metformin or metformin/sulfonylurea) for almost all in the "strapped" group.

At the moment though I think I will pass but it is good to hear that the medical profession is looking at other viable methods than the more invasive bariatric surgery to control T2 diabetes. I hope they are on to something.

Good article.

Also, saw this on the news a few nights ago.

Not sure about any of this.

I had considered bariatric surgery but ruled it out. More cons than pros.

At the time I was borderline requiring anyway.

I simply need to buckle down and be more disciplined.

LCing does bring my weight down.

I have a goal of 250 or less for this year; not doing to well so far.
