Default Is It Ok To "save Your Carbs"

I am in induction and I was wondering if it was ok to save your carbs, suppose you have a special dinner planned or something and you know there will be a good amount of carbs in the meal, is it ok to cut back on carbs during the day inorder to enjoy your dinner w/ out feeling guilty?

I have no idea.. It seems like it'd be better to spread your carbs throughout the day for better results, IMO, Rather than having one giant mega-dose of carbage in one meal. Especially at night..

But, I'll leave this to the experts.

It's not a good idea. A lot of carbs eaten at one time may knock you out of ketosis.

If you find you really must eat carbs try to finish eating within the hour. The main insulin surge comes later and by that time you'll have finished.

hi Beez,

For all the reasons the others have stated, the short answer is no, it's not a good idea. But for special occasions, such as anniversary dinner or a wedding, this may be the only option. Robert's suggestion to have the meal a là Carb Addicts Diet (start and finish within a one-hour time frame) is a good way to minimize any potential negative effect.

In general, it's best to distribute your carbs (and your protein, for that matter) relatively evenly throughout the day. Here's what the Drs. Eades of Protein Power have to say on the matter:
Quote:
Do I have to spread my carbohydrates around throughout the day or can I just save them all up and eat them all at once?

You really can’t save them up, unfortunately. Carbohydrates have an expiration date with each meal. There’s a metabolic impact to eating carbohydrates.

If you eat 10 grams of carbohydrate, you’re going to raise your insulin a little bit. If you eat 20 or 30 grams you’re going to raise it more. If you’ve saved up 40 grams throughout the day and you eat them all at one time, you’re going to have a metabolic impact-your insulin is really going to go up. When that happens, it’s like climbing right back on the insulin roller coaster-up goes the insulin, down goes the blood sugar, and then up goes the hunger and the cravings. You really do yourself more harm than good when you try to save up carbohydrates and use them all at one time.

If you plan to eat a little bit more carbohydrates than normal, the time to do it is in the morning. Insulin receptors are more effective in the morning than they are later in the day. They actually move sugar out of the blood more quickly with less insulin.
