Default clinical trial - high protein diets & diabetes

found this in the medical observer, thought there might be someone who qualifies here, or you may want to pass on information regarding your own experience with diabetes and low carb:

Newcastle researchers are seeking local patients recently diagnosed with type II diabetes to take part in a study looking at the effect of high protien diets on their condition.
This study follows a number of smaller studies which have suggested that high protein diets may make weight loss easier and improve glycaemic control while making little difference to cholosterol levels and possible improving triglyceride levels.
The researchers from the University of Newcastle hope to recruit 100 people newly diagnosed with tpe II diabetes. These people will then be randomised to receive either standard dietary education (15-29% energy from protein) or education to eat more protein (approximately 30-05% energy). Both groups will recieve the same education about fat intake and exercise.
Participants will be asked to complete a three day, weighed food diary at baseline, three months and one year. At these times they will also be tested for fasting insulin, glucose, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.
Body mass index and waist circumference will aslo be measured. Questionnaires related to qulaity of life, food preferences and exercises will also need to be completed.
To be eligible for the study people need to have been recently diagnosed with type II diabetes and live in the Hunter region.
