Default Carb Friendly Fruits

What are the best fruits to eat on a low-carb diet? It's hard to tell what I should be eating because all of the serving sizes are different and it is hard to compare.

I believe some people add in berries cautiously and maybe some melon. Your amounts cannot be unlimited. I had a major stall when I was regularly eating big bowlfuls of strawberries and heavy whipping cream sweetened with Splenda. Obviously the quantity was too much. If you are at a point in on going weight loss where you wish to add in fruit, check out maybe 1/2 cup servings and compare the carb and fiber counts for each until you find something you like that's a good number to you and may even be in season.

The only fruit I've added in so far is strawberries, about 100g or 3.5 oz which have around 6 carb units. I've never had them with sweetner, but add cream for another carb unit.

I've read Protein Power and Schwarzbein, in which limited fruit is allowed. In both of these they stress how important it is to eat protein or fat with them to lower the glycemic index and prevent insulin spikes. You can get an idea of the carbs in various fruits from the carb counter on this site, bottom bullet on the right.

Remember that tomatoes and avacados are fruit. Fresh squeezed lemonade is great and Atkins allows the juice of a lemon. I can eat 4 strawberries and I have had my limit for two days. It is so hard with all the fruit coming into season. Peaches are my downfall with brie cheese. Cherries also. Sigh....

Whenever you do add fruit try eating it with a protein -- like sliced apple with cheese or peanut butter. Be sure and count the carb content and add it to your daily totals.
