Thumbs up Marscapone! Yummmmm!

Hi there,

I got some Marscapone on the weekend (despite the prohibitive cost!), and it is so yummy!

Is it me, or does it almost taste sweet? I checked the label, but there's no sugar in there. There is however, some locust bean gum. Is that bad?

Can someone tell me the carb count? I've looked online without success, and want to be sure I don't eat too much.

Thanks, Aria

P.S. Thanks to those who recently offered their encouragement when I was stalled. I persevered, and the weight has started moving again! Yippee!

aria, isn't mascarpone delicious? I have a count of .5g per ounce of the one I use when I make Karen's tiramisu recipe; others will vary based on the list of ingredients. You're wise to check the lable, some mascarpones do use sugar

Generally speaking the higher the fat percentage of a product the lower the carb percentage (whipped cream is higher in fat than milk and a lot lower in carbs) Mascarpone tends to be very high in fat (and very delicious)

Question What is it?

OK... I give... what is Mascarpone ? What do you do with it and what section of the grocery store/health food store is it in?

Thanks,

Karla (Who must be missing something!)

Default Delicious cheese!

Hi Karla,

It's a very high fat cheese, which also appears to be low-carb. My grocer carries it in the cheese section next to the feta, ricotta etc. It's used as the base for many desserts, including tiramisu. There is a great recipe for that on the bottom lefthand side of this site's homepage which I highly recommend!

I also like to eat it straight from the tub, and it seems to curb my sweet tooth.

Unhappy

I bought it today and didnt like it at all

After hearing about how everyone thinks its amazing, I had a teaspoon and quickly closed the tub.

Better go and find a recipe I can use it on or its going in the bin. Dammit! Oups

Default My boyfriend hated it too!

He couldn't get over the 'sweet' taste. He prefers his cheese to be on the saltier side.
Try it in a dessert, and you'll change your mind!

Now that you said it, I think that was the reason. Too sweety, cutesy . I love salty feta, so its probably not surprising.

I will try the tirramisu recipe, as it seems to be quite popular.
